Innovative Products- What’s Hot in 2011

Dr. Ron Kander, Director of the School of Engineering at James Madison University (JMU), will discuss how reverse engineering and LCA are used by JMU’s engineering students to understand the wide ranging environmental and energy impacts of various products.

Steve Davis, Director of Sustainable Design with VMDO, will speak on the two areas where he is seeing the greatest innovation: efficient envelope products (such as commercial triple glazing or FRP thermal breaks) and products that address the next round of toxicity issues (fire retardants, PVC, etc.).

Andrew Thomas, AIA will talk on building envelope design: envelope assembly products for moisture performance, energy use and resource efficiency. For residential and light commercial applications, we will take a comparative look at innovative sheathings, radiant barriers and other envelope materials.

1 AIA LU’s will be provided for this event.
